The 6th Riga Infantry Regiment, attacking from Bumbu Hill, captured Sudrabkalniņš. A memorial plaque was installed in 1939, which was destroyed in 1969. The memorial site was restored in 1989.
“A memorial plaque was unveiled on Bumbu Hill in Bolderāja on November 1st of this year. Greeted by the soldiers’ guard of honor, the Minister of Transport B. Einbergs, the Grand Elder of Riga R. Liepiņš and representatives of the army arrived at the celebration. Unveiling the plaque, on the instructions of the Minister of War, General J. Baložs, the Minister of Transport, among other things, said: “In the lives of people and nations there are moments and events that we call fateful and historical and that we also commemorate as such in later days. Our liberation struggles are full of such events. And we commemorate them in order to learn and always remember that faith in one’s cause, endurance and heroism are the qualities that are needed to turn events in our favor even in the worst circumstances. In the first days of November 1919, the division commander, then colonel, now general Berķis, the commander of our army, led the battle from this hill. Although Although the battles demanded heavy sacrifices, they achieved a great goal - the liberation of our capital city from the enemy. A monument has been erected here in memory of these battles, which will speak of faith, endurance and heroism, with which important successes were achieved in the battles of that time and, consequently, for our country and people at a historical moment. Let us not forget that even now we are experiencing historical moments in which we need faith, endurance and heroism first and foremost - just like in 1918 and 1919. Let us not forget that the future of our country will be maintained only by the same forces that created it in its time and led it through the difficult freedom struggles.” The Minister then expressed the Minister of War’s gratitude to the builders of the monument and unveiled it. The Minister’s speech was followed by the national anthem.
The text was published in the newspaper "Pašvaldības darbinieks". In 1939 (1.10.1939). The author is unknown.
