Kolkasrags Border Guard

In the late 1980s, together with like-minded naturalists, we surveyed the Kurzeme coast, including the territory of the current Slītere National Park. Both on the bay side (starting from Mērsrags) and on the open sea side, border guard towers were built at certain distances, where at least one military person regularly stayed to observe what was happening on the coast. Since our route was planned from Melnsilas to Sīkrags, we had to contact the local border guard post in advance, stating the planned route and the purpose of the march. Despite this official application, some border guards nevertheless climbed down from the towers and carried out checks – Кто такие? Куда идете? Какова цель прибытия? Предявите пруск! (Who are you? Where are you going? What is the purpose of your arrival? Show me a pass!).
