Ragaciems Border Guard Base
The Soviet border guard settled in Ragaciems in the mid-1960s, but left this place in 1991. About 50 military personnel worked at the facility. Residents and military personnel got along very well, organized joint events, participated in various celebrations, and relations were normal. The only thing that worried the residents of Ragaciems was the radar installed at the base, the existence of which was associated with various absences. Interestingly, a bear “wandered” into the army unit, which was kept in captivity here and maintained until the army left. In 1991, the missiles were dismantled and taken to an unknown direction.
