Jēkabpils Aizsargu nams (now the People's House) was one of the oldest guard houses built in the Free State of Latvia. Such specially built houses were also in other Latvian cities: Madona, Vandzene, Valka, Malta, and Talsi region. The building of the Jēkabpils Aizsargu nams has survived to this day, where the Jēkabpils People's House is located. The fact that this house belonged to the Guard organization is evidenced by a plaque installed on the house on November 9, 2016, which confirms that this is the Jēkabpils Aizsargu nams, which was built in 1937 according to the design of Makšis Lecs.

The house served as a place for the organization's activities and a refuge, and also served as a center for maintaining and nurturing the idea of national culture.

The Guards' House is a two-story plastered brick building with constructivist elements. The building has the functionalist profiled eaves, eaves, and rhythmic rows of windows that emphasize the horizontal division of the facade, which is contrastively interrupted by pronounced vertical volumes, such as staircases. The original interior decoration of the hall in the folk style has been fully preserved - a balcony supported by columns, wooden decoration of the balcony, and decorative ceiling decoration with a sign of an ear in the center of the ceiling.

On July 8, 1940, by a decision of the occupying Latvian People's Government, the Guards Organization was liquidated throughout the country and the Jēkabpils Guards House ceased to exist. Instead, the building housed the Jēkabpils Culture House, which was renamed the Oškalns Culture House in 1948, and since 1990 the People's House.

The building can be viewed from the outside, the historical interior has not been preserved. A plaque installed at the entrance to the building in 2016 indicates that the Jēkabpils Guard House was located in this building from 1937-1940.
