Igaunijas Kara muzejs – ģenerāļa Laidonera muzejs. Muzejs kopš 2001. gada atrodas 19. gadsimta vidū celtajā vēsturiskajā Vīmsi muižā un pilda Igaunijas militārās vēstures mantojuma pētniecības, glabāšanas un eksponēšanas uzdevumu. Tā priekšteči bija Igaunijas Brīvības kara muzejs (dibināts 1919. gada 19. janvārī) un Ģenerāļa Laidonera muzejs, kurš ar Vīmsi pašvaldības rīkojumu tika iekārtots muižā 1993. gadā. Padomju okupācijas gados muižu izmantoja jūras spēku izlūkošanas vienība. Padomju armijai izvācoties, ēka tika atstāta bēdīgā stāvoklī. Muzejs tika nodibināts ar aizsardzības ministra Jiri Luika 2001. gada 26. februāra rīkojumu. Kopš tā laika muzejs darbojas Aizsardzības ministrijas paspārnē. Pamatekspozīcija stāsta par kariem Igaunijas teritorijā un svešzemju kariem, kuros piedalījušies igauņi. Daļa no ekspozīcijas ir veltīta armijas virspavēlniekam Johanam Laidoneram, kurš bija muižas saimnieks no 1923. līdz 1940. gadam. Militārās tehnikas angārā blakus muzeja galvenajai ēkai var apskatīt dažādus artilērijas elementus un transportlīdzekļus. Estonian War Museum – General Laidoner Museum Since 2001, the museum has been located in the historic Viimsi Manor, built in the mid-19th century, and serves as Estonia’s institution for researching, preserving, and exhibiting the country’s military history heritage. Its predecessors were the Estonian War of Independence Museum, founded on 19 January 1919, and the General Laidoner Museum, which was established in the manor by order of the Viimsi municipality in 1993. During the Soviet occupation, the manor was used by a naval intelligence unit. When the Soviet Army withdrew, the building was left in poor condition. The museum was officially founded by an order of Defence Minister Jüri Luik on 26 February 2001. Since then, it has operated under the authority of the Estonian Ministry of Defence. The permanent exhibition presents wars fought on Estonian territory as well as foreign wars in which Estonians participated. Part of the exhibition is dedicated to Commander-in-Chief Johan Laidoner, who owned the manor from 1923 to 1940. In the military technology hangar next to the museum’s main building, visitors can view various artillery pieces and military vehicles.

Naisāres salas šaursliežu dzelzceļš savulaik bija nozīmīga militārā artērija, pa kuru pārvadāja munīciju, apgādi un karavīrus starp krasta aizsardzības baterijām un stratēģiskajiem punktiem salā. Tas bija daļa no salas nocietinājumu sistēmas, kas aizsargāja pieeju Tallinai un Somu līcim. The narrow-gauge railway on Naissaar Island was once an important military artery, used to transport ammunition, supplies, and soldiers between coastal defense batteries and strategic points across the island. It formed part of the island’s fortification system, which protected access to Tallinn and the Gulf of Finland. Today, this historic railway has become a popular tourist attraction, offering visitors a chance to experience the island’s military past.

🛡️ Did You Know That Secret Coastal Artillery Batteries Still Stand by the Sea? Along the Baltic coast near Klaipėda, massive concrete structures still hide among dunes and forests. These are the remains of coastal artillery batteries built during World War II — part of Germany’s defensive system designed to protect the strategically important port of Memel (today’s Klaipėda). One of the most impressive sites is the Memel-Nord Coastal Battery. Hidden in the landscape, its thick concrete walls once supported powerful naval guns capable of targeting ships in the Baltic Sea. From above, many of these bunkers blend into the terrain. Up close, they reveal underground corridors, ammunition rooms, and observation posts facing the horizon. The Forts of Kaunas – A Ring of Defense Around the City ⚔️ At the end of the 19th century, Kaunas was transformed into one of the strongest military strongholds in the Russian Empire. The Kaunas Fortress was built as a defensive ring of forts, batteries, and underground passages surrounding the city. Massive brick walls, hidden tunnels, artillery positions — everything designed to withstand a modern war. During World War I, the fortress fell after just 11 days of German assault. Later, some forts were reused by different regimes — and some, like the Ninth Fort of the Kaunas Fortress, became tragic sites of mass executions during World War II. Today, the forts stand as powerful reminders of shifting empires, occupations, and resistance.
