"Merevend" among the forest brothers - Arvid Saart

In the winter and spring of 1944, the sailing ship Alar Kõrgessaare stood in a winter apartment on the roadstead. Arvid Saart, a man from the village of Lepiku who ran the German army, found refuge in the ship, being known to be the only "sea brother" among the Estonian forest brothers. In the late summer of 1944, the sailing ship Alar tried to escape from the port of Kõrgessaare to Sweden, but the German navy detained it. However, the second attempt from Haapsalu ended happily. Alar sailed under the Panama and US flags during the post-war period. In 1998, the ship was towed from Denmark to Hiiumaa and exhibited in the port of Sõru.
