Mõntu 127mm beach defense battery Infrastructure

The beach defense battery is located in the Mõntu park on the coast of the Gulf of Livonia near the Mõntu harbor in a deserted place.

The 127 mm coastal defense artillery battery No. 458, which consisted of four underground firing positions with circular galleries cast in concrete, along with weapons and primary ammunition, was located in Mõntus in 1944 as aid.

American 127mm coastal defense cannons Mark 12 were widely used in the USSR to protect the coastal area of the Baltic Sea in Estonia and Latvia.

Currently, there are only 4 well-preserved concrete artillery positions on the landscape, because the armament was transferred to the vicinity of Riga in 1950.

The artillery positions with the mullets have been given to the Sõrve Military Museum without maintenance. War relics found during the cleaning of the park are collected for visitors to see in the round gallery of the 3rd position, which is the most accessible.

Information stands provide an overview of the history of Mõntu park, manor and school.
