On the steep bank of the window is part of the trenches created by the German army in 1944 to protect Riga from the attacking Soviet army. The first line of defense was located here because Hitler had ordered the city to be kept. The fate of Jelgava could befall Riga, where everything was destroyed along with the ground, but it was saved by the fact that the Soviet army broke through the German front line near Vilnius and Riga was threatened with siege. The German army retreated to Kurzeme and Riga did not become a fortification of the front line.

It is interesting to see the excavations that stretch along the top of the steep bank and face the sea. Here the Germans had created a so-called "sack" - the enemy is let in, as if deeper behind him, and then destroyed by a crossfire (on three sides). Further towards Vecmīlgrāvis there is another dune embankment with trenches against which the attacking enemy would also hit and it would be caught in a bag.

Today, there are expressive trenches in the beautiful seaside forest.
