The heroic deed of the War Order of Jēkabs Selionovs Lāčplēsis
The heroic deed of Lieutenant Jēkabs Selionovs, commander of the Cyclist Company of the 8th Daugavpils Infantry Regiment of the Latvian Army, in the vicinity of Viļaka (Marienhausen) on January 10, 1920, for which he received the Lāčplēsis War Order.
"On January 10, 1920, in Latgale, when the enemy attacked the 2nd Battalion of the 8th Daugavpils Infantry Regiment from Borisova Manor and Cūkines early in the morning, the commander of the bicycle company Selionovs with a small group of company soldiers broke into the enemy's rear and cut off the enemy's road between the Viļaka (Marienhausen) station and the village of Tarusu. The enemy, noticing our soldiers in the rear, became confused and hastily retreated from the Viļaka (Marienhausen) station with the brigade headquarters. Lieutenant Selionovs noticed the enemy's retreat near the village of Gorki (in Russian territory), himself and his soldiers chased the fleeing enemy, wounded his horses and through it caught up with the commander and commissar of the 2nd Separate Petrograd Brigade. The latter, using the forest near the road, escaped there, but Lieutenant Selionov personally chased them until he caught up. Despite the fact that all the roads were occupied by the enemy, Lieutenant Selionov nevertheless delivered the two prisoners to the regimental headquarters."
