Monument to Lithuanian soldiers killed in action from 1919 to 1920
Memorial site
The monument to those who died in the 1919-1920 battles for Lithuanian freedom in Kupiškis is located in the city cemetery and is part of the Lithuanian Volunteers Memorial. The monument was built according to the design of Antanas Aleksandravičius, and the funds were donated by residents of Kupiškis and surrounding towns and villages, members of the Lithuanian Riflemen and Spring Unions.
The monument is made of concrete, on a stepped platform and a cube-shaped gray pedestal stands a square white obelisk with white Gediminas pillars and a cross on top. It was the central symbol of the burial of volunteer soldiers, which was not demolished during the Soviet occupation, but its symbolism was plastered over at that time.
In 1989, at the initiative of the Kupiškis Sąjūdis movement, the monument was reconstructed and consecrated.
