Recreation complex "Miķelis" Museum

The recreation complex 'Miķelis' is located in Gailīši parish, by the Mūsa River.

The museum was created in the 1970s, when extensive agricultural land reclamation took place, and many farmsteads were leveled. With the support of Ivars Jansons, chairman of the collective farm “Uzvara”, buildings typical of Zemgale farms in the late 18th and early 20th centuries were transferred from several old farms in the Bauska area and rebuilt. It was first opened to visitors as an Ethnographic Open-Air Museum in 1978. In parallel with the farmstead, a collection of agricultural machinery was created. Initially, special attention was paid to tractors that were used in the Latvian countryside in the first half of the 20th century. Currently, the collection of old vehicles has been supplemented with passenger cars. The collection includes more than 100 different technical units: passenger cars, heavy and fire trucks, various agricultural machinery, as well as motorcycles and engines. Among the exhibits are transport units produced in the USSR, the USA and Germany used during World War II, such as: a Mercedes-Benz truck (1944) with German army equipment, the Red Army GAZ-67B (1949), the Bauska War Commissariat GAZ-51 (1952). One of the oldest military transport exhibits in the collection is the ALBION (1919) used in the Latvian army.
