Alsėdžiai Cognitive Center Museum
The Alsėdžiai Educational Center, located in the town of Alsėdžiai itself, opened in 2022, invites you to get acquainted with the history and personalities of this settlement.
Among the personalities of the Alsėdžiai region, a special place is occupied by Jonas Smilgevičius and Stanislovas Narutavičius – two of the twenty signatories of the February 16 Act, who significantly contributed to the restoration of Lithuania's independence. Jonas Smilgevičius – an economist, diplomat and public figure, who actively participated in Lithuanian societies and supported the ideas of Lithuanianness. Stanislovas Narutavičius – a lawyer, public figure, and also the brother of Gabrielius Narutavičius, the first president of Poland.
Next to the knowledge center stands a chapel pillar dedicated to honoring the partisans. The knowledge center itself reveals the history of Alsėdžiai in a modern and interactive way, allowing visitors to touch artifacts from ancient times. Here are exhibited copies of the 1253 Courland Treaty and the privilege of Duke Vytautas the Great, which mentions Lake Alsėdžiai. Visitors will learn that it was here, in Alsėdžiai, that Bishop Juozapas Arnulfas Giedraitis was the first to translate the New Testament into Lithuanian. At the knowledge center, you will be able to better familiarize yourself with the aforementioned signatories of the February 16th Act and their contribution to Lithuanian history.
