In 1915–1918, the 88th Division of the German 8th Army fought against the Russian army on this front. The German artillery battery consisted of 2–3 fire squads and a fire control squad or section. One battery had two covered casemates for storing artillery guns, rooms for the crew and ammunition. The casemates were to protect the guns, ammunition and crew not only from shelling, but also from aerial observation. All artillery gun positions, the sight (for adjusting artillery fire) and the fire control unit were connected by a telephone line. A concrete sight and tracking and cover bunkers have also survived in this position.
