The pillars of the former German army bridge near Radze
Infrastructure
Located near Radze on the right bank of the Daugava and Daugava Vīnkalnie on the left bank of the Daugava. It was built by the German army during World War II – in 1942 as an infrastructure facility for the Berlin-Helsinki highway (original source?). As the Red Army approached, the Germans blew up the bridge. Near Radze, the area around the bridge supports has been cleared of brushwood, so they are clearly visible. They can best be viewed from the territory of the Radze camping site, or by boating along the Daugava. According to legend, in Soviet times, supports were visible above the river, which were blown up to prevent water traffic. The supports on the left bank are not accessible.
