The name of the place during the First World War – “Tempelhofer Feld” – Tempelhof Field, which is visible on the German army map. It was located between the Kaiserdam and Kaul – See, which is now swamped. From the north, the Tempelhof Field site is surrounded by a pronounced inland dune massif with forest clearings. On the slopes of the dunes, traces of wartime trenches and barracks (?) are visible on LIDAR maps and in nature. On the 1940 map “NARA Aerofoto” at the site of Tempelhof Field, an open area surrounded by forests is visible, 1.7 km long and 0.8 km wide.

It is believed that the name was given by the German army during World War I after the same place in southern Berlin, where the parade ground of the Berlin garrison was established. The place was associated with German military and aviation history - an airfield was established there. Today, it is located in Tempelhof Park.
