In Trikāta parish – Strenči silas, in an area of approximately 33 ha, there are larger and smaller deepened rectangular areas with rampart-shaped edges. They were created by German army soldiers in 1944, at the end of World War II. Before retreating, the German army’s light and heavy artillery – cannons, tanks, motorcycles, etc., were localized in the forest, creating a training ground.

In nature and on LIDAR maps, around 100 rectangular pits dug in straight rows with small ramparts and an exit are visible.

Walking along the German Trail, on both sides of the trail, you can see the rectangular areas that have been created and are now overgrown with trees. The width and length of the largest structure are approximately 10x24 meters, while the smallest is 10x12 meters.

Old Trikāti residents still remember that in 1944, while driving to Strenči, they saw German soldiers, tanks, and motorcycles in the forest. Some of the buildings were overrun by logging equipment.
