Türisalu–Naage trench lines and platoon shelters
Fortification
The Türisalu–Naage defensive position was part of the first defense sector of the Tallinn land front of the Peter the Great sea fortress. An extensive system of trenches, firing positions and small team shelters was built in the area during the First World War. In the preserved sections, it is possible to observe a double trench line and several divisional shelters. These smaller shelters with concrete or wooden structures were supposed to provide protection for the soldiers manning the positions from artillery fire and shrapnel. The trenches preserved in the forested landscape give a good idea of how the western land route to Tallinn was planned to be defended during the First World War.
