Joint Command Center Fortification
The joint command center for the sea and land fronts, established in the Vääna-Viti area, was intended to coordinate the management of various parts of the Tallinn defense system of the Peter the Great sea fortress. It is also popularly called the “generals’ bunker”. The massive reinforced concrete structure is located partially recessed into the limestone and its ceiling is several meters thick. A concrete tunnel approximately 250 meters long led from the command center to the officers’ shelter. The dimensions of the structure and underground connections clearly show how thoroughly preparations were made to protect the command center from possible artillery fire.
