The Udria landing took place in January 1919 during a counterattack by Estonian forces. Under the command of Admiral Johan Pitka, Estonian landing troops and Finnish volunteers were transported by sea to the Udria beach, whose task was to operate behind the Red Army units retreating towards Narva and support the liberation of Narva. The original memorial was opened to commemorate the Udria landing in 1933, but the Soviet authorities destroyed it in 1940. The restored monument was opened in 1991. Today, the memorial commemorates one of the most successful amphibious operations of the War of Independence.
