Battery No. 4, built on the Kakumäe Peninsula, was part of the Tallinn coastal defenses of the Peter the Great sea fortress. Initially, the position was planned for four 120 mm guns, but as armament plans changed, 130 mm guns were planned. Construction work on the battery took place mainly in 1914–1916. Unlike many other sea fortress batteries, there was no railway connection here and a cobblestone road led to the position. When the Russian troops left in February 1918, the facility was partially blown up. Today, gun emplacements, shelters and other parts of the battery have survived in the forested landscape.
