Suurupi Battery No. 2 was established during World War I as one of the heavy coastal batteries of the Tallinn sea defense system. The battery was armed with four 9.2-inch or 234 mm guns manufactured at the Bethlehem Steel factory in the United States. The artillery positions included a command post, a power station, ammunition rooms and a railway connection. During the Republic of Estonia, the position continued to be used as coastal battery No. 6. In 1941, when the Soviet troops retreated, some of the artillery blocks and other facilities were blown up, but the ruins of the battery are still clearly visible in the Suurupi forests.
