Paljassaare battery Fortification
Paljassaare Coastal Defense Battery No. 12 was established as a close-in defense of the Tallinn naval base of Peter the Great's sea fortress. Together with the Miiduranna battery located on the other side of the bay, it was to protect the Tallinn roadstead and the ports of the sea fortress. After the First World War, the area received a new purpose: the shelters of the former battery were used as mine warehouses of the Estonian Navy, and in the 1920s, new warehouses and a narrow-gauge railway were built. Therefore, the military landscape of Paljassaare has intertwined traces of both the Russian Imperial naval fortress and the Estonian Navy.
