Naissaare Coastal Defense Battery 10a Fortification
Coastal defense battery 10a, built in the western part of Naissaar, was one of the most ambitious structures of Peter the Great's sea fortress. The battery was designed for four 14-inch or 356 mm guns in two paired towers. The two massive two-story concrete tower bases were to be connected by a defensive rampart approximately 200 meters long. By the end of the First World War, only the northern tower base had been completed, the southern one remained unfinished, and the cannons could not be installed in the battery. Today, the monumental concrete structures give a good idea of the scale of the sea defenses of Tallinn planned by the Russian Empire.
