Molotov defensive line observation position in Palanga
Infrastructure
The Molotov Line is a fortification defense line that was hastily built by the USSR in 1940–1941, which ran through the territories of Lithuania, Poland, Belarus and Ukraine occupied and annexed by the USSR in 1939–1940. The Molotov Line in the territory of Lithuania was divided into the Telšiai, Šiauliai, Kaunas and Alytus fortification districts, and the length of the entire line in the territory of Lithuania was 328 km. (from Palanga to Kalvarija). The construction of 101 concrete bunkers began on the section of the line located in Lithuania, but none of them was completed and fully equipped by the beginning of the German-Russian war in June 1941. Although the Molotov Line was intended for defense against the attack of the German army, it did not fulfill its planned function during the German-Russian war. The Molotov Line was started in Palanga, so here you can get acquainted with the surviving and unfinished Molotov Line observation bunker position.
