Cultural History Center "Līču mājas" Museum
The Cultural History Center “Līču mājas” is located in the picturesque bend of the Šņitka River, next to the city stage and an ancient park, behind which the Kārsava Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church stands among the stately larch trees. “Līču mājas” is located in a building with a long history. In 1916, Reinholds Matīss (1870–1943) in Kārsava parish purchased a small plot of land with a stone barn on the territory of the former Ontonova semi-manor. The property was named “Līču mājas” and became the largest industrial enterprise in the area during the interwar period of the 20th century.
The currently renovated building houses a modern, permanent exhibition that takes visitors through the most important milestones in the fate of Kārsava and its surroundings (mainly during the periods of World War II and Soviet occupation).
The Cultural History Center offers tours of the city and the surrounding area, as well as thematic events and various activities for children. The center has tourist information, brochures, and developed routes for walking and cycling tourists.
Center opening hours: Tuesday–Saturday 9:00–17:00. By registering one day in advance, it is possible to visit the cultural history center outside of opening hours.
