Memorial site
On June 22, 1941, after the outbreak of the German-USSR war, an uprising organized by the Lithuanian Activists Front began in Lithuania. The June Uprising was organized by the Lithuanian Activists Front since the end of 1940, the founders of which associated the liberation of Lithuania with the march of the Nazi German army to the East. On June 22, 1941, the rebels seized the radio in Kaunas, announced the declaration of the restoration of Lithuania's independence, and formed a provisional government. The fight against the retreating Red Army was launched by units of the Lithuanian Activists Front, which operated throughout the territory of Lithuania in Kaunas, Vilnius, Zarasai, Panevėžys, Utena and Mažeikiai. It is necessary to emphasize that some of the rebel units became involved in the implementation of the Holocaust. The June rebel unit also operated in the town of Skuodas, and in memory of the fallen rebels, in 1995, the Skuodas St. A monument was erected through the efforts of the parishioners of the Trinity Church.
