 Laisvės a. 9, Ramygala, Panevėžio r., Lithuania
121

A monument to the Knights of the Cross of Vytis of Ramygala parish of the Panevėžys district who fought for independence in 1919–1920 was erected in Ramygala, Laisvės Square. Thus, the idea dedicated to the centenary of the restoration of the Lithuanian state to perpetuate the memory of the volunteers of the independence struggle of their country throughout the country was implemented in Ramygala. The author of the idea is journalist Vilius Kavaliauskas, founder of the Vytis Support Fund. The idea was supported by the Ramygala eldership, the local community, and the financing was provided by the Panevėžys district municipality. The author of the two-meter-high monument made of red Swedish granite is the famous creator of monumental sculpture Vytautas Tallat-Kelpša. The monument beautifully fits into the main city space, harmoniously combining with the neo-Gothic brick church of St. John the Baptist of the same color. The highest Lithuanian state military award – the Order of the Cross of Vytis – was awarded to individuals who fought bravely and heroically for the freedom and independence of our country.
