Monument to the Partisans of Vytis County in Vadokliai
Memorial site
In the town of Vadokliai, Panevėžys district
In 1944–1953, the Lithuanian partisans of Vytis district operated in Panevėžys district, fighting against the Soviet occupation regime in Aukštaitija. They operated in Panevėžys district, part of Ukmergė and Kėdainiai counties, and later also in Pasvalys and Biržai counties. They belonged to the North-Eastern Lithuanian region (since 1948, the Eastern Lithuanian region).
A monument was erected in memory of Vytis County in 2006. The author of the sculpture is Gediminas Karalius, a famous Lithuanian sculptor, one of the first laureates of the Lithuanian National Culture and Art Prize. His sculptures adorn the spaces of many Lithuanian and foreign cities. Now G. Karalius lives and creates in Vadokliai. From the window of his room, the artist sees his sculpture, dedicated to the memory of the partisans of Vytis County. Such a horse also appears in the heraldry of Vadokliai created by G. Karalius – the coat of arms and flag.
