The monument to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Lithuania's Independence in Kretinga was erected in 1928 in the former Market Square, on the site of a demolished Orthodox church. The initiator of the construction was the Kretinga branch of the Lithuanian Riflemen's Union. Pink polished granite was used for the construction of the monument, and its shape resembles an obelisk. On the front plane, swords and a shield with the Vytis cross are attached, above them - a copper plate with the inscription: "Lithuanian / independence / decade / 1918–1928", above - a copper figure of Vytis. On the back facade: at the top - Gediminas' columns, at the bottom - a plate with the inscription: "Stop, passing Lithuanian, honor those who fought for the freedom of Lithuania, think about whether you are following their example". Bronze decorations are incorporated into the edges. During the Soviet occupation, in 1948 By order of the Kretinga authorities, the monument was toppled and sunk in Akmena. The monument was restored in 1990.
