Freedom Monument in Pašiausė Memorial site
The monument stands in Pašiausė, Kelmė district.
In 1931, on the initiative of the local rifle squad commander Stasys Beniulis, the Freedom Monument was built, designed by the famous Kaunas architect Bronius Elsbergas. The monument was intended to honor the memory of those who died in the 1919 Lithuanian freedom battles against the Bermontites near Pašiauše. In 1961-1962, on the orders of the second secretary of the Šiauliai District Committee of the Communist Party, the monument was demolished.
Today, on July 15, 1989, in commemoration of the 579th anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald, a granite monument was restored. Jonas Čyvas initiated its restoration, with the participation of local residents and the Kelmė district government, using funds allocated for the collective farm. The monument consists of a granite-covered pedestal with a composition of vertical and horizontal panels in the motif of the Gediminas' Pillars. It is said that the interwar original design of the monument was built into the monument itself.
