Monument to the Volunteer Soldiers Who Died for the Freedom of Lithuania in Zarasai
Memorial site
In the Zarasai city cemetery.
Several dozen Lithuanian army volunteers who fought against the Bolsheviks in 1919 were buried in the Zarasai cemetery. A few years later, in 1924, representatives of the Zarasai branch of the Lithuanian Catholic Youth Union “Pavasaris” erected an obelisk. The five-meter-high obelisk was built of stone. Its shape resembles a pyramid, and a cross is built on top. In the main part of the obelisk there is a glass-covered niche in which a wooden cross is placed. The monument is important because it represents many interwar Lithuanian monuments built from collected field stones and dedicated to fallen soldiers.
